Your Role
Do you enjoy turning complex technical concepts into clear, buildable 3D system designs? We are looking for a Layout Engineer who wants to contribute to large, international automation and infrastructure projects.
In this role, you transform conceptual system layouts into detailed engineering models that can be used for manufacturing, installation, and commissioning. You work closely with mechanical engineers and other specialists to create designs that integrate perfectly within existing buildings, taking into account structure, MEP services, spatial constraints, and operational requirements. You combine creativity with precise technical execution, ensuring that every design is both functional and feasible.
You will be responsible for coordinating all layout-related activities within your projects. This includes preparing engineering deliverables, managing BIM models, ensuring consistent design standards, and supporting reviews with internal teams and external stakeholders. You may lead or support a team of layout engineers depending on project size and complexity.
Your responsibilities
- Build and maintain detailed 3D system models using BIM software such as Revit, AutoCAD and Navisworks.
- Collaborate with internal engineering teams as well as external partners to ensure accurate and coordinated designs.
- Update and refine BIM models based on new information, design changes or customer requirements.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of BIM workflows, templates and standards.
- Support planning, cost estimation and material tracking activities using BIM tools.
- Ensure that mechanical, electrical and building-services interfaces are properly integrated into the overall system layout.
- Lead or mentor layout engineers within the project team, promoting teamwork and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Degree (HBO, Bachelor, or MBO+ with experience) in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related technical discipline.
- Strong experience with BIM platforms such as Revit, AutoCAD and Navisworks.
- Understanding of automated system layouts and their interaction with building structures and MEP systems.
- High attention to detail combined with the ability to think conceptually.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Additional BIM certifications or training are considered an advantage.
